Introduction to Inner Healing and Deliverance - Lesson 01

Lesson 1 - Introduction to Inner Healing and Deliverance

I. Opening Prayer (1 Peter 5:10, Psalm 107:20)

Let's begin our time in prayer, asking God to restore, establish, and heal us by His power. "And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast." (1 Peter 5:10). "He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction." (Psalm 107:20)

 

II. Overview of Inner Healing and Deliverance (Luke 4:18-19)

We'll be exploring the biblical foundations of Christian deliverance and inner healing, following Jesus' model described in Luke 4:18-19: "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor."

 

III. Testimony (2 Corinthians 1:3-5)

I'll share my personal story of finding hope and healing through Christ after loss. God comforts us in suffering so we can comfort others. "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God." (2 Corinthians 1:3-5)

 

IV. Jesus' Commission (Isaiah 61:1-3)

Jesus commissioned all believers to continue His healing ministry as described in Isaiah 61:1-3: “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”

 

V. Making Healing Accessible (James 5:13-16)

We'll learn simple, practical methods based on God's word, like James 5:13-16, to find freedom through prayer and anointing. Our goal is to make inner healing available to all who seek it.

 

VI. Overcoming Spiritual Warfare (Ephesians 6:10-18)

Spiritual warfare must be fought and won in the spiritual realm, through prayer, God's Word, faith, and the full armor described in Ephesians 6:10-18.

 

VII. Experiencing Emotional Wellbeing (John 10:10)

Through inner healing and deliverance, we can move beyond just coping to truly experiencing Jesus' promise of life "to the full" in John 10:10. Wholeness spiritually and emotionally is God's desire.

Let's conclude by reminding ourselves of God’s truth from Colossians 3:12-17. We are chosen, forgiven, and loved by Christ. Let's continue pursuing healing together through Him.

Lesson 02 - Inner Healing and Deliverance for the Brokenhearted

 

I. Opening Prayer

Let's begin by asking God to speak to us and reveal any areas needing emotional or spiritual healing.

 

II. Who is This Training For?

This training is for the brokenhearted - all of us who have faced rejection, depression, grief, and emotional wounds and need healing and freedom in Christ. "The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners." (Isaiah 61:1)

 

III. Who are the Brokenhearted?

The brokenhearted refers to anyone at any point who has experienced sorrow, grief, or emotional trauma. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." (Matthew 5:4)

  • Victims of abuse, assault, violence

  • Those processing grief, depression, anxiety

  • People overcoming addictions, habits

  • Individuals with chronic health conditions

  • Those coping with trauma from accidents, disasters

  • Anyone experiencing emotional wounds or scars

 

IV. We All Need Healing

We all suffer wounds from abuse, disasters, tragedy and loss. These create deep scars in our souls requiring healing. "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." (Psalm 147:3)

 

V. Not Recognizing Our Need for Healing

Many don't realize they need healing. We try to cope through burying pain, distractions. But only temporary relief. "There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death." (Proverbs 14:12)

 

VI. How Unhealed Wounds Resurface

Unattended wounds resurface, used by Satan to cause further torment. "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy." (John 10:10)

  • Abuse - physical, verbal, sexual, domestic, ritualistic

  • Trauma from violence, war, disasters, accidents

  • Loss of loved ones through death, divorce, estrangement

  • Betrayal trauma from close relationships

  • Chronic health conditions

  • Long-term stress, exhaustion, burnout

 

VII. The Holy Spirit Reveals Our Wounds

The Holy Spirit reveals emotional wounds needing healing as we grow in Christ. "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth." (John 16:13)

 

VIII. Jesus Provides Complete Healing

Only Jesus' power provides complete, profound healing - not just a bandaid. "He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed." (1 Peter 2:24)

 

IX. Indicators of Needed Inner Healing

Abuse, depression, anxiety, anger, PTSD, demonic encounters all point to needed inner healing. "He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness." (Matthew 10:1)

 

X. Closing Spiritual Entry Points

Unhealed wounds provide entry points for spiritual attacks. Inner healing closes those access points. "Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith." (1 Peter 5:8-9)

 

XI. Jesus Restores Wholeness

Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted, set captives free and restore abundant life. (Luke 4:18-19, John 10:10)

Lesson 03 - Approaching Jesus as Friend and Father in Prayer

I. The Power of Persistence in Prayer

Jesus emphasizes the importance of persisting in prayer, even when it feels like our requests are going unanswered or we face resistance. In the parable found in Luke 11:5-8, Jesus describes a friend shamelessly asking for help at midnight, despite the inconvenience of the timing and initial refusal. The friend persists until his request is finally granted. Jesus tells us to approach Him with this same persistence and shameless asking. We are to continue knocking, seeking, asking, even when we don't see immediate results. Our timing is not God's timing. While He may not open the door when we expect, we can have confidence that if we persist, the door will open.

 

II. Approaching Jesus as a Friend

Jesus calls us to build an intimate relationship with Him, where we openly and honestly share all our needs, desires, and concerns, just as we would with a close friend. In John 15:15, Jesus says "I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you." We are invited into friendship with Christ, where we can freely confide in Him and bring our requests.

 

III. Continuing to Knock, Ask, Seek

Even when our prayers seem to go unanswered, we are called to persistently continue knocking, asking, and seeking, refusing to give up. Galatians 6:9 reminds us "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." God promises we will reap a harvest if we persevere and do not lose heart. His timing is perfect. Our job is to patiently, expectantly keep praying.

 

IV. Focusing Our Minds on the Good

A key part of our spiritual growth is training our minds to dwell on what is excellent - things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. As Philippians 4:8 encourages "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things." When our minds are set on what is good, we will more readily discern God's gifts versus the enemy's counterfeits.

 

V. Overcoming Through Prayer and Faith

Through persistent prayer and faith, we can find freedom from spiritual strongholds and oppression. James 4:7 instructs "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." Bringing issues to God in consistent prayer while resisting the devil is key to victory.

 

VI. A Transformative Journey

Drawing close to Jesus as our friend and father transforms us, strengthening our faith and giving continual revelation of God's love. As John 17:3 declares, "Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." This knowing of God through Christ is eternal life.

Effective Prayer Strategies - Lesson 04

Lesson 04 - Effective Prayer Strategies

I. Approaching Jesus as Friend

  • Jesus invites us into an intimate, close friendship (John 15:15)

  • We can come to Jesus as we would a trusted friend, being completely honest about our struggles, faults, sins, burdens, worries, and fears (Psalm 62:8, Proverbs 17:17, James 5:16)

  • As our friend, Jesus understands us fully, cares about our lives, and wants the best for us (Hebrews 4:15-16)

  • Being authentic and vulnerable with Jesus as a friend leads to freedom, healing, wisdom, and restoration (John 8:31-32, Proverbs 27:9, James 1:5)

 

II. Approaching Jesus as Father

  • In the Lord's Prayer, Jesus provides a model for approaching God as a loving, caring Father (Matthew 6:9-13)

  • We address God intimately as "Our Father" just as Jesus taught (Matthew 6:9)

  • A good father selflessly provides for his children's needs - "Give us this day our daily bread" (Matthew 6:11)

  • A good father forgives wrongs and flaws in his children - "Forgive us our debts" (Matthew 6:12)

  • A good father protects his children from harm - "Deliver us from evil" (Matthew 6:13)

 

III. Key Aspects of the Lord's Prayer

  • Daily bread = expressing childlike dependence on God to supply our every need (Matthew 6:11, Philippians 4:19, Psalm 23:1)

  • Forgiveness = humbly asking for grace, repenting of sin, and extending forgiveness to others (Matthew 6:12, Matthew 18:21-22, Colossians 3:13)

  • Guidance/deliverance = relying on God's strength for rescue and protection (Matthew 6:13, Psalm 32:7, Psalm 23:4, Psalm 91:14-16)

 

IV. Applying These Prayer Strategies

  • Come persistently to God for mercy and help (Luke 18:1-8, Romans 12:12)

  • Seek God's will, wisdom, guidance in all things (Matthew 7:7-8, James 1:5, Proverbs 3:5-6)

  • Ask God to supply needs, give direction, and protect from spiritual forces (Matthew 7:7-8, John 14:13-14, Psalm 23:1, 4)

  • Have confidence in God's constant love and care as the perfect Father (1 John 3:1, Psalm 103:13, Isaiah 49:15-16)

 

V. Conclusion

  • Through persistent, childlike, dependent prayer to God as Father and transparent friendship with Jesus, we can be healed, delivered, restored, and guided by God's merciful hand (Luke 18:1-8, Hebrews 11:6, Jeremiah 33:3)

Discerning and Confirming Freedom - Lesson 05

Lesson 05 - Discerning and Confirming Freedom; Three Manifestations of Jesus' Healing Power
 

I. Importance of Hearing God's Voice
It is imperative that we grasp, discern, and follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit in this inner healing process. The Holy Spirit is our guide. (John 16:13)
When we bring an issue before Jesus, we need to listen for the Holy Spirit's confirmation that the area has been healed and the legal right of the enemy severed. (Matthew 12:29)
Our goal is to be able to distinguish what the Holy Spirit is communicating when we ask Him to affirm that Jesus has restored and healed the issue. (John 14:26)

 

II. How Jesus Manifests Healing
In alignment with John 10:27 and 1 Kings 19:12, Jesus may speak directly to us, replacing harmful lies and untruths with His healing truth. We may hear Him say "It is finished" or "I love you".
He may also communicate healing through visions and encounters, like we see in the biblical accounts of Zachariah and Daniel. We revisit past traumas and experience Jesus' comfort. (Luke 1:8-23)
As in Matthew 8:5-13 with the centurion, we can trust in faith that Jesus' authoritative Word extends peace and healing power over afflictions.

 

III. Confirming Complete Healing
After identifying an issue and bringing it to Jesus, we need to revisit the memory to confirm that it has been fully restored by the Lord. (2 Timothy 2:13)
Jesus not only heals the wounds, but removes associated pain. We should sense His peace. (Isaiah 53:5)
Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit's leading and discern how Jesus is manifesting healing. It may be through speaking, visions, or only a feeling of His peace. (Romans 8:6)

 

IV. Ongoing Process and Dependence
This is an ongoing journey of admitting imperfection and depending on Jesus for forgiveness, healing, and sanctification. (Galatians 5:16-26)
Ask the Holy Spirit to help forgive others, reveal God's will, and say no to evil influences. (Matthew 6:14)
Knock persistently in prayer until the door is opened; keep seeking and asking Jesus for healing. (Matthew 7:7-8)

 

V. Conclusion
Confirming and discerning healing is a process of pursuing intimacy with Jesus while depending on the Holy Spirit's guidance. Keep drawing near to God for wholeness. (James 4:8)

Lesson 06 - Steps to Inner Healing and Deliverance

 

I. Turning to Jesus

When facing any problem or issue, we are called first and foremost to turn to Jesus in persistent prayer as both friend and father. We approach Him boldly and shamelessly, asking for His healing touch. "Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you." (Luke 11:9)

 

II. Separating from Demonic Spirits

As a first step, we can verbalize our authority in Christ to separate our spirit from any demonic oppression or attacks. Hebrews 4:12 says God's word divides soul and spirit. We declare: "In the name and authority of Jesus, I separate soul and spirit and command any evil spirits to detach and leave in Jesus' name." This creates needed space for the Lord to speak and minister.

 

III. Walking in Forgiveness

Where emotional wounds are connected to offense, forgiveness is key. We voice forgiveness out loud, even if just by faith initially. "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." (Colossians 3:13) As needed, we ask the Spirit to reveal any residual areas He wants to address, fully opening to His restorative work.

 

IV. Petitioning Jesus for Inner Healing

We directly ask Jesus to heal damaged areas of our soul/emotions. "If you have faith when you pray, you will be given whatever you ask for." (Matthew 21:22) We trust He hears and responds according to His perfect will.

 

V. Listening for Jesus' Confirmation

We wait patiently in prayer for some form of confirmation that healing has occurred. Jesus often communicates directly to our spirit, through an inner vision/encounter, or by supernaturally bringing peace. "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 2:5) We tune to His Spirit's voice.

 

VI. Sealing the Healing Through Declaration

Mirroring the persistent friend parable, we "knock" by boldly declaring in Jesus' authority that this door of pain now closes, and we move forward in freedom. "Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son." (John 14:13) We stand on His promises.

 

VII. Offering God Thanksgiving and Praise

With joy, we offer heartfelt thanks to Jesus for His healing work and praise to God for His mercy and love. "Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!" (Psalm 100:4) Gratitude and worship deepen our connection with Him.

Lesson 07 - Additional Steps When Feeling Stuck

 

I. Turning to Jesus When Progress Stalls

If we hit obstacles in achieving inner healing, we persist in boldly approaching Jesus. Though the path may seem blocked, we continue shamelessly knocking, asking, seeking. "Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." (Hebrews 4:16)

 

II. Breaking the Enemy's Grip through Declaration

When feeling stuck, we can verbally break free from demonic oppression using the sword of the Spirit. "Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." (Ephesians 6:17) We declare: "In Jesus' name, I break the enemy’s grip over my spiritual ears. Demons detach and depart and leave me alone now in Jesus’ name."

 

III. Asking Jesus to Reconfirm the Healing

Persisting in prayer, we ask Jesus again to bring assurance that healing has occurred and to give confirmation. "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." (James 1:5) We trust He will make it known.

 

IV. Calling on God's Angelic Help

If still struggling, we can request God's angelic assistance against demonic resistance, as He sent angels to help Daniel hear His voice. "But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia." (Daniel 10:13)

 

V. Persisting Patiently in Prayer

We continue knocking persistently at the door of Jesus' mercy in continual prayer, not losing heart but expecting breakthrough in God's timing. "Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up." (Luke 18:1) We trust His promises.

 

VI. Standing Firm in Faith and Jesus' Authority

Throughout this process, we stand firm in faith in Christ's power and the authority He has given us over evil spirits. "The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." (1 John 4:4) Victory is assured as we call upon His name.

 

VII. Jesus' Unending Hope and Power

We can have unshakeable confidence that with Jesus there is always hope, regardless of our struggle. His resurrection power brings freedom and restoration. "For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith." (1 John 5:4)

Testimony 01: Finding Peace Amidst Pain

Finding Peace Amidst Pain: Jesus' Swift Response to Mike's Cry

In this powerful testimony, we delve into the story of Mike, who bravely shared his painful past and the wounds inflicted by his father. It is a story of emotional absence, abuse, and betrayal that left Mike questioning his faith. We see how the hypocritical behavior of his father in the church further deepened his wounds and caused significant damage to his perception of Christianity. But amidst this darkness, Jesus shines as the ultimate source of healing and restoration.

 

The Bible tells us in Philippians 4:7 that Jesus offers us His peace, a peace that surpasses all understanding. This peace is precisely what Mike experienced when Jesus came through for him. As he poured out his heart, Jesus embraced him with a confirmation of a "big hug." In that moment, Mike felt the comforting arms of Jesus enveloping him, bringing solace to his wounded soul. This powerful encounter reminded Mike of the nearness of Jesus, as described in Psalm 34:17-18, where it says that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

 

But Jesus did not stop there. He went beyond the embrace to provide guidance and direction to Mike. Just as in Isaiah 41:10, where the Lord speaks and says, "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you," Jesus spoke directly to Mike's heart. He instructed Mike to give the issue to Him, assuring him that he no longer needed to carry the burden alone. This divine direction brought clarity and peace to Mike's tumultuous journey.

 

Throughout this lesson, we witness how Jesus shows up in different ways for Mike. The swiftness of His response is a testament to His faithfulness, as stated in Psalm 107:20, which tells us that He sent forth His word and healed them. Jesus does not delay in bringing healing and restoration. He meets us where we are, just as He did with Mike. His love is relentless, His compassion unwavering.

 

As we reflect on Mike's story, we are reminded of the invitation extended to us by Jesus Himself in Matthew 11:28-30. He invites us to come to Him with our burdens, promising rest and comfort. No matter the depth of our wounds, Jesus is ready and willing to heal us. We only need to call upon His name and put our faith into action, just as Mike did.

 

In this lesson, we witness the power of forgiveness as well. Mike took a courageous step in forgiving his father, not only for his own sake but also by faith. In James 4:7, we are encouraged to resist the enemy, and by forgiving his father, Mike released any hold that the enemy may have had over him. This act of faith unleashed the healing power of Jesus in his life, breaking the chains of guilt and shame.

 

Let us learn from Mike's story and expect Jesus to show up swiftly in our lives. Just as He brought confirmation and healing to Mike, He stands ready to do the same for each of us. Let us invite Him into our pain, our struggles, and our brokenness. With Jesus, there is no wound too deep, no hurt too overwhelming. His love is the balm that soothes, His presence the light that dispels darkness.

 

May we, like Mike, experience the profound touch of Jesus, allowing His healing power to restore our hearts and lead us to a place of wholeness. Let us trust in the promises of Scripture, knowing that Jesus is faithful and true. In Him, we find comfort, direction, confirmation, and restoration. Jesus is the answer to our deepest needs, and when we call upon His name, He will respond swiftly, bringing healing to our wounded souls.

Testimony 02: How Jesus Restored a Shattered Heart

Vanessa's Journey: How Jesus Restored One Woman's Shattered Heart

 

Vanessa awakened one day feeling utterly worthless after the end of her 16-year marriage. Her husband Miguel's cruel words - that she and the family were "not worth fighting for" - echoed relentlessly in her mind (Luke 18:7-8). His rejection left her identity and purpose in tatters (Isaiah 61:7).

 

Though over a year had passed since their separation, Vanessa still felt the raw pain of abandonment (Psalm 147:3). She described how Miguel's verbal assaults deeply wounded her soul, leaving her devastated and empty (Psalm 143:4). Carrying this grief alone for so long had weighed her spirit down (Matthew 11:28).

 

Desperate for relief, Vanessa accepted the minister's invitation to surrender her hurt to Jesus (Matthew 11:28). She divided soul from spirit, granting Christ access to her inner anguish (Hebrews 4:12). Though resistant at first, Vanessa chose to forgive Miguel by faith, despite the bitterness lodged within (Matthew 6:14-15).

 

As she persisted in prayer, Jesus drew intimately near (James 4:8). He spoke tender words of comfort, assuring Vanessa she was loved and would be okay (John 14:27). As Colossians 3:13 exhorts, "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." Releasing unforgiveness removed hindrances between Daniel and God.

 

Pastor Timothy then coached Daniel to give Jesus full permission to meet him in that traumatic memory and heal it. As James 4:8 instructs, "Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you." Jesus encouraged Daniel not to accept those destructive narratives but instead immerse himself in God's word. As Daniel filled his mind with scripture, it would unlock greater freedom in his life. The Lord then brought two powerful confirmations to anchor this truth in Daniel's heart.

 

  1. Jesus spoke to Daniel with a still, small voice. As John 10:27 says, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." Daniel was able to hear the gentle voice of the Lord assuring him that he had been believing the enemy's lies. Jesus brought comforting words directly to Daniel's spirit.

  2. Jesus brought supernatural peace and healing to Daniel's painful memory. As Isaiah 26:3 promises, "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you." It was further confirmation of his repeated hurtful actions.

 

Makayla realized these emotions meant she still harbored unforgiveness in her heart. She wanted healing, but wasn’t sure how to fully let it go and walk in freedom. Though at first she did not sense the Lord's presence, Makayla continued to seek Him shamelessly as Scripture urges in Hebrews 11:6.

 

Second, upon inviting Jesus into the hurt once more, Makayla realized the previous pain associated with this memory was now completely gone, as the Great Physician promises in Isaiah 53:5. The Wonderful Counselor had fought this battle for her and taken away the sting according to 1 Corinthians 15:57.

 

Makayla left this encounter with renewed hope and freedom, ready to walk forward unhindered by the weight of the past. She would continue knocking in faith, knowing Jesus her Friend would always meet her in the pain and heal every broken place.
